Post-traumatic stress disorder and sexual behaviour

Australia has one of the highest reported cases of sexual assault in the world, with many other victims remaining silent due to feelings of shame, guilt and fear. What are the unwanted sexual advances that are assault and, as a practitioner, including counselling work on sexual abuse, we work with adult clients who have suffered terribly, not just as abused young men, but as traumatized adults, trying to function on a daily basis under all the heavy burden that is not their fault?

Exposure to sexual abuse at a young age can be the result of a significant loss of youth and innocence in adolescence and adulthood. His grief continues because of a sporadic and broken childhood. Traumatised individuals are believed to have an indisputable memory of the disturbing events in their brain and body. These memories are often expressed by symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the form of nightmares, past memories, vulgar reactions and schizophrenia. Sexual abuse counselling treats these symptoms of PTSD in a caring and thoughtful way.

Through counselling, we can help you identify the violations you have suffered and their impact on your life. We will explore and bring together the negative emotions associated with them while helping you develop more adaptive behaviour, new skills and coping strategies.

If you are experiencing Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), effective therapy helps you understand your reactions, to process the trauma and treat trauma in a way that makes you reconcile with it and dig deeper into your daily experience. Treatment also allows you to restore a sense of balance and stability, and to participate in your life by renewing peace and participation.
